During my time in Romania, I met a man named Bob. Bob served with us in Romania as we served the Ukrainian people. He also drove vans into Ukraine with food and supplies.

He moved back to Egypt where he lives, and the following week I also went to Egypt to meet the rest of my squad for our Final debrief. We spent the first day in Cairo right on the Nile river.

This debrief is 4 days, So we had 4 days before to do whatever, some of us took an 8 hour bus from Cairo to the middle of the desert, to a city called Hurghada on the Red Sea. This is where Bob lives.

There was not much of a plan, but Bob blessed us with a apartment right on the beach, with beds and took us out to dinner.  He then invited us to a house church the next day. He wanted us to share testimonies with the church.

The next day, we had planned on going on a prayer walk, but before we met I woke up early and went for a walk on the beach. As I was walking, I recognized a voice, it was my friend Hannah and she was talking to some tall man. So I went over there, and of course Hannah has her bible out and she is just telling this man about Jesus.

This man is from Germany, he is in his 20s and does not know Jesus. He explained to us about why he is here in Egypt and how he was listening to a podcast about spirituality, as he is trying to find an inner peace.  He said he was randomly led on the beach and met my friend Hannah who was reading her bible in front of the place he was staying.  Hannah invited the man to come to house church that night, and he accepted the invitation.

That night we went to the house church, an Egyptian couple hosts it at their house, a woman from England, a man from Sudan, and Bob an American are the normal crowd. But tonight, 7 Americans (that’s us!) came, as well as a woman from Russia in her 20s, as well as an Egyptian family, and of course our friend from Germany.  What a crowd!!

We went around and shared testimonies and read scripture, I was amazed at some of their backgrounds and how they came to follow Jesus. This was a very encouraging night sharing testimonies, scriptures, and love.

The Russian lady had a powerful testimony of how she awoke from an accident. When she awoke she felt a urge from something inside her to go to a church, she had never been to church in her life but she went and has now been a believer for a year now in Egypt. She said she was baptized in the Red Sea but needed a community and she heard about this house church, tonight was her first night coming. The man from Sudan used to be a Muslim, but 4 years ago he came to know Jesus. I learned about the genecide in Sudan how it has been going since 2003. These peoples story’s were powerful and our friend from Germany heard them all.

Tonight Bob toke us to an Egyptian Arabic speaking church with our two friends from Russia and Sudan. During these churches, I was amazed seeing once again how diverse the body of Christ is and how beautiful it is that Jesus alone brings us together.

Thanks for following along and for all the support, I would be unable to be a missionary without the support of so many of you.

Now the times have changed as I’ve said before, this trip I am on is now ending.

I am heading back to Romania for two months to serve Ukrainians.

  1. Sam, what a wonderful testimony of the fellowship and sharing of the Gospel of Christ. Stay strong and God’s blessings on your life as you continue this important and amazing endeavor to help bring help and hope to those that are suffering. Sometimes suffering that you can’t see. A kind gesture and warm embrace wipes away many tears. Wish I could have done something amazing as this years ago myself. You are truly blessed in serving those in need and Almighty God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit guide you. Aunt Wanda

  2. Sam,
Love this example of discovery bible study and how a home becomes a church. Continue to travel safely and spread the word.

  3. What an amazing testimony Sam! Praying a lot for you and those going with you back to Romania!
