On January, 23

It was the afternoon of a already hard work day. And our hosts points to a mountain and tells us we are going to hike up it and preach. So that is what we did.

We grabbed the food bags we had put together and headed up the mountain. It was a long journey, but absolutely beautiful. We made it to a town and split into teams.

Ella, Gustavo and his dog, and I were on a team. We prayed and started walking. We were looking for a house to go up to and preach, but there was hundreds of houses and we only had one food bag. We walked and walked, and finally the Lord told me to go to a house behind us, so that is what we did. We went but nobody was home, so we continued in that direction and and walked and walked, dead end, turned, walked and walked. We had no direction from the Lord, yet he was guiding us to where he needed us.

Then we heard someone say “good morning” and it was late afternoon. Gustavo turned to me and said ” This is it” . We turned around and walked to that house and shouted from through the fence. Three women peak their head out from their house and look at us. They only spoke Spanish so Gustavo translated for Ella and I. The women asked if we were religious. Gustavo responded no! WE FOLLOW JESUS CHRIST, WE ARE NOT RELIGIOUS!!

This caught the women’s attention, and she said she was interested in what we had to share. I told her my testimony, and I was going to read a certain scripture I had planned, but the Holy Spirit interrupted me and led me to share on The Prodigal son in Luke 15. As I was reading and Preaching, and Gustavo was translating, the women began to cry.

For five or six minutes tears were pouring down her face and she invited me in. I shared more that the Lord had put on my heart and then we gave her food. She kept crying and then she shared about her life.

She moved here eight years ago to be a missionary in that neighborhood. A man who came with her was a pastor and they started a church. But that man fell into sexual sin and the church fell. Covid hit and now she was alone and was struggling. The two other women in her house were young and they had no parents, so they lived with her. She said she was trying to follow the lord, but had fallen away from all the evil that had come. Then she started to tear up and again and said “God sent you, to tell me to come back, I will, I will serve!”  She could not believe we had come all the way there in the midst of Covid.

I told her we shouldn’t even be here, but a week prior we were going to be in Nicaragua, last minute we came to Costa Rica, and then got moved here, climbed up this mountain, and out of the thousands of houses we only went to one, her house.

Ella shared something with her, and then Ella played guitar and we worshiped.

I was scared to preach, I had never done something like that before, But my ministry host told me day 1, You are a preacher, you will preach here. God definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone today, and blessed me with seeing some fruit…. This women who had fallen away and is now coming back!!

God loves us, and it is never to late to turn from our ways and come back to him. Just like the boy in the Prodigal son. He spent his fathers money and went off and lived wildly. Then when he hit the bottom he came back to be a servant to his father. But the father ran and met him on his way back, gave him is coat and held a feast to celebrate… his son was lost and was now found!!! No matter how far you have wondered, God is waiting for you.
